The Salt Spring Hospice Society is now recruiting for Spring 2018 volunteer training program!

Salt Spring Hospice Society is a non-profit, registered charity that supports individuals, families and our community with compassionate care through end-of-life and loss.
We are a volunteer-powered organization and our services are offered free to the community.

Volunteers are an essential part of our organization and are provided with ongoing opportunities for self-care, education, mentorship and skill development.

Overview of Position:
We have a variety of client support volunteer positions, working with people and families in the community in need of compassionate end-of-life care and bereavement support. A client support volunteer provides emotional, spiritual, practical and grief support at home, in the hospital and in nursing homes.

Volunteers can also choose to support Hospice by helping with fundraising, event planning or admin work.

Our Spring 2018 Volunteer Education Program is starting Saturday, February 24, 2018 and will run for five Saturdays, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

This 5-week training is for new hospice volunteers and will cover topics such as:
-the philosophy of hospice care
-medical/psychosocial/spiritual care at end of life
-communication
-self-care
-loss/grief/bereavement

The cost for this training is $50. If this presents a hardship, please get in touch so we can discuss alternative arrangements.

Skills and experience required:
The most valuable skill a client support volunteer can have is the ability to listen and be non-judgmental.

Training provided:
Yes! All volunteers must complete a mandatory 30-hour hospice volunteer training program. A criminal record check is also required.
