2016 Volunteer Fair

Volunteer and Community Resources Salt Spring (VCR) would like to thank all the organizations who participated in our first Volunteer Fair, as well as the many islanders who braved the weather to come out and learn about what our not-for-profit community has to offer.  We had 19 participating organizations (and a waitlist of 4 due to space restrictions!).   Many of our organizations were successful at recruiting new volunteers.

The Volunteer Fair was a partnership with the Salt Spring Public Library and we are grateful to Nikky McCarvill for her enthusiasm and initiative. Thank you to Thrifty Foods for providing the snacks and to Susan Gordon for taking photographs.

Where:  Program Meeting Room at the Library

Time: 12:00-1:00pm

Topic: Mobilizing our Awareness, Recognition and Recruitment Efforts on the Road Towards Canada’s 150 Anniversary

In the past, we have generated many good ideas on how we can recruit and recognize our volunteers. An initiative called “Canada 150 for 150 Volunteer Challenge”, whereby individuals are encouraged to give 150 hours of volunteerism in their communities, could be the perfect launch pad that helps us all give a focussed push in these areas and apply some of those really creative ideas. We’d love to talk about how we can work together and maximize our efforts and energies.

Please RSVP for this event to We are looking forward to the chance to re-connect with old faces and become acquainted with new ones. As our faithfuls always say, it is a great opportunity beyond the topic to simply share and talk to others. The cross-pollination of ideas and problem-solving always proves invaluable.

Brown Bag Networking Lunches are a great opportunity to meet with VCR and other community organizations to discuss key issues on all aspects of volunteer management on Salt Spring Island. Come share your success stories, challenges and questions.
