Marg Munro to receive Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers

Our very own Marg Munro has been awarded the Governor General of Canada Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers.

The Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers recognizes the exceptional volunteer achievements of Canadians from across the country in a wide range of fields.

Congratulations Marg!  A well-deserved honour!

 

 

 


 #SIMPLE GENEROSITY SPREADS TO SALT SPRING ISLAND

Island Savings, a division of First West Credit Union, is celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary with Simple Generosity, an innovative 12-month program that applauds community volunteerism and supports local charities and non-profits.

Salt Spring Island is pleased to boast its first recipient of a $1500 award, Cherie Gouvreau.  Cherie will be donating her award to Salt Spring Women Against Violence (SWOVA).

SSI YOUTH VOLUNTEER GETS NOTICED

Each year, the Victoria Foundation celebrates inspiring stories and successes of community leadership in Greater Victoria.  This year as part of the awards, two Victoria Foundation Loran Provincial Scholarship were awarded, one to local GISS student Catelyn Creswick.

Loran scholars are exceptional Canadians who demonstrate character, service and leadership. These students show personal integrity and character, and have a breadth of academic and extracurricular interests and strongly developed inner-direction.
